This Liverpool-style transferware commemorative pitcher was commissioned by Stonington defender Silas Burrows of Mystic about 1820. Although the view condenses four days of battle action into a single moment, it depicts—with some accuracy but a bit of artistic license—the attacking British ships and barges, the Stonington flag, and other elements of the event. In fact, the British ships remained about a mile and a half from Stonington, not as close as they are shown here. (Courtesy of Stonington Historical Society, 2008.0066)
