Midshipman Powers tombstone in Stonington

After hostilities ended, Midshipman Powers received a proper tombstone in Stonington’s Evergreen Cemetery: “Here rest the remains of Mr. Thomas Barratt Powers, aged 18 years. Late Midshipman of H.B. Majesty’s Ship Superb, who was killed in action in a boat on the 31st July 1814: a Native of Market Bosworth in the County of Leicestershire England.” A side panel notes, “This Memorial was erected by the Honble Captn Paget, and his Brother Officers as a tribute of respect and esteem.” (Courtesy of Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT; Photographer: Dennis Murphy)
